Ubidyne Joins the Open Base Station Architecture Initiative in the Promotion of Standardization

ULM, GERMANY, JANUARY 22, 2008 -- Ubidyne, the leader in digital radio technology for the wireless industry, announced today that the company has joined the Open Base Station Architecture Initiative (OBSAI).

The Open Base Station Architecture Initiative (OBSAI) is an industry initiative comprised of leading base station vendors, module and component manufacturers. Between them they have created a complete set of open interface specifications related to key parts of the base station subsystem. By defining a basic modular architecture and detailed specifications for the internal interfaces between modules, OBSAI aims to create an open market for cellular base stations.

“Our OBSAI membership further demonstrates our commitment to the industry standardization of mobile network equipment,” commented Ken Hawk, CEO of Ubidyne. “We look forward to assisting in the acceleration of standardization in the base station industry and to making our antenna embedded radio technology as easy to use as possible.”

“We are pleased to continue the momentum of our standardization initiative with the addition of Ubidyne,” said Peter Kenington, Managing Director of Linear Communications Consultants Ltd. and the Technical Chair of OBSAI. “The advent of the OBSAI specifications and their widespread adoption in the industry has stimulated innovation and is enabling groundbreaking infrastructure solutions to find their way into OEM products, much more quickly and easily than would otherwise have been the case.”

The OBSAI specifications will create an open market that will substantially reduce the development effort and costs that have been traditionally associated with creating new base station product ranges. The availability of off-the-shelf base station modules will enable manufacturers to focus their development efforts on creating further added value within the base station, encouraging greater innovation and more cost-effective products. Reduced product development cycles will enable new base station functions to become available on the market more quickly.
